About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing various laboratory tests and procedures, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of results, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards. This role involves assisting in laboratory operations, including supervising laboratory assistants and supporting the Director of Laboratory Services.

Requirements

  • Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
  • Experience in clinical laboratory settings and proficiency with laboratory equipment and techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with healthcare providers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently accommodates STAT orders, reporting results within one hour or as soon as available.
  • Calls all critical values and test results to providers within 60 minutes of being available.
  • Completes required documentation promptly and accurately.
  • Assists in ensuring adherence to lab procedures and safety protocols, alerting supervisors to any abnormalities encountered during testing.
  • Maintains a workload productivity of at least 90% while managing tasks efficiently.
  • Prepares the department for all regulatory surveys and ensures compliance with standards.
  • Collects venous and arterial blood samples as needed, adhering to aseptic techniques.
  • Confirms patient identification using at least two identifiers (full name and date of birth) before sample collection.
  • Completes required tests and observations on patient specimens, ensuring results accurately reflect the quality of operations.
  • Follows established policies and procedures for drawing blood samples, including ensuring hemostasis post-collection.
  • Maintains validity and accuracy of results by performing quality control checks and properly maintaining instruments.
  • Works with AH Biomedical, vendors, and technical services for any mechanical issues that arise.
  • Maintains adequate levels of reagents, calibrators, controls, and supplies to ensure smooth operation.
  • Meets expectations for all competencies, licenses, certifications, and educational requirements as specified by regulatory agencies.
  • Supervises laboratory assistants as needed, providing support to the Director of Laboratory Services.
  • Verifies that the appropriate specimen is analyzed for the correct patient and test, ensuring accuracy in test order entry.
  • Willingly performs additional duties and engages in innovations as assigned.
