Clinical Laboratory Scientist / Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Nevada System of Higher Education•Reno, NV

About The Position

The Nevada State Public Health Laboratory (NSPHL), Nevada’s official public health, environmental, and investigative analytical laboratory, is recruiting for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist (SCLS). The laboratory is a key component of the University of Nevada, Reno School of Public Health and supports newborn screening, disease detection and surveillance, environmental and clinical testing, outbreak response, and emergency preparedness. The CLS independently performs high-complexity analytical laboratory procedures on blood, body fluids, and samples related to public safety or public health investigations. The role is responsible for technical accuracy, instrument operation, quality control, and reporting results according to established policies and procedures. The CLS ensures timely and accurate results are communicated courteously and professionally to appropriate public health staff and physicians, and performs support tasks as needed to maintain laboratory operations. CLS positions are assigned to one departmental specialty and receive training in other specialties. The SCLS performs the lower-level role’s duties with greater experience and independence, and is proficient in multiple departmental specialties. In newborn screening, the follow-up requirement affects how multiple specialties are assigned. Weekend and holiday work is required on a rotating schedule when warranted by the assignment. After-hours or call-in work may be required in response to public health emergencies or significant events. Schedules may change as necessary, and occasional travel is required. The position is exempt and full-time (100% FTE).
