About The Position

This position may be required to perform tests in all areas of the Clinical Laboratory, including Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and limited Microbiology. The role involves calibrating and maintaining all Clinical Laboratory instruments, troubleshooting instruments and methods, and performing necessary record keeping, quality control surveillance, and problem resolution. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will also handle specimen processing and clerical functions as needed, and must be capable of performing efficiently under pressure and completing selected tests in a STAT time frame. Specific responsibilities in Blood Bank include resolving antibody problems, ABO discrepancies, preparing components, selecting appropriate blood for transfusion, and identifying and working up transfusion reactions.

Requirements

  • Current California Laboratory Technologist License required
  • Bachelor's OR Master's degree
  • One year internship in an approved Clinical Laboratory Scientist Program leading to licensure by the State of California
  • Possess a current license issued by the state in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required
  • Have earned a doctoral, master's or bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • Knowledge of and recent experience with automated analyzers including maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality control and necessary record keeping.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Ability to absorb and accept changing regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • MT-Medical Technologist preferred
  • Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
  • Recent experience in a laboratory including Hematology, Blood Bank, and Chemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tests in all areas of the Clinical Laboratory including Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis and limited Microbiology.
  • Calibrate and maintain all Clinical Laboratory instruments.
  • Troubleshoot all instruments and/or methods as needed.
  • Perform all necessary record keeping, quality control surveillance and problem resolution on instruments and methods.
  • Perform specimen processing and clerical functions as needed.

  • Train new CLS staff members, CLS students, and Laboratory Assistants.
