This position serves as the sole Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) surveyor within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), specifically for the Division of Licensing and Certification’s (DLC) Medical Facilities Unit. The role involves conducting laboratory inspections for both federally certified and state-licensed medical laboratories across Maine. The primary objective is to ensure that medical laboratory services provided by various facilities, including hospitals and physicians' offices, comply with federal and state regulations. This includes performing on-site routine inspections and investigating complaints. The surveyor will also offer consultation and guidance on regulatory compliance with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Conditions of Participation and Maine State licensing requirements. The position requires statewide travel, occasional overnight stays, and may necessitate occasional night or weekend surveys. Additionally, the surveyor will be responsible for completing "Statements of Deficiencies" reports, interviewing complainants and witnesses, and participating in mandatory online CMS training.
