About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant performs pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic processes, and may perform specimen collection. This is a phlebotomy position with outpatient, inpatient, and ED draws, along with some lab duties. While experience is preferred, the right candidate will be trained. The role involves M-F variable 4-8-hour shifts between 5 a.m.- 5 p.m., with weekend and holiday rotation of 4 hours (5 a.m.- 9 a.m.) and on-call hours. Open shift pick-up and supporting another campus is desired.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age
• Completion of BLS Certification will be required for candidates working at ThedaCare Medical Center – Wild Rose

Responsibilities

• Obtains specimens from inpatients and outpatients following proper identification protocols and appropriate techniques to maintain the integrity of the specimens, and prioritizes collections to meet established turnaround times.
• Supports patient testing by performing waived testing, loading analyzers, and performing lab functions, as needed, to meet patient demands.
• Adheres to OSHA and ThedaCare department policies for specimen collection and handling to ensure a safe work environment.
• Provides training for new lab and non-lab team members to retain top talent.
• Performs specimen-related computer functions with accuracy and speed including entering physician’s orders, processing cancelations, and entering add-on tests to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Enters, activates, and/or reviews physician orders in the system with accuracy for patient safety and quality.
• Maintains supplies and assists with inventory and ordering to ensure the availability of supplies to perform patient care responsibilities.
• Performs special specimen collections (i.e., legal specimen collections) to support patient testing and follow up as required by law.
