About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant works in the Laboratory at Texas Health Plano in Plano, Texas. The role performs daily review of departmental results and follows laboratory procedures for specimen collection, patient identification and labeling, specimen handling and processing, unacceptable specimens, and established laboratory tests. For entities performing phlebotomy, collection and labeling practices must be appropriate to the patient’s age. The employee may also perform procedures in other laboratory areas as required by the hospital entity. The position is part-time and works evenings, 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The laboratory department highlights opportunities for educational and career growth, teamwork, executive leadership support, participation in projects or committees, and applying hands-on knowledge from theory.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency.
Six months of experience as a phlebotomist or completion of a one-semester course in phlebotomy.

Nice To Haves

PBT(ASCP) – Phlebotomy Technician upon hire preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform daily review of results from the department.
For entities performing phlebotomy, follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection, patient identification, and labeling as appropriate for the patient’s age.
Follow laboratory procedures for handling and processing specimens safely and appropriately.
Follow laboratory procedures for handling unacceptable specimens.
Follow established laboratory test procedures.
Perform procedures in other areas of the Laboratory as required by the hospital entity.
