About The Position

Dynacare is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to join their Cytology team in Brampton, Ontario. This role involves preparing samples and/or reagents for routine processing, performing simple non-interpretive tests under supervision, and ensuring quality control checks are met. The position requires participation in quality assurance programs, adherence to company and Ministry of Health guidelines, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. The contributions of this role are critical to downstream solutions and treatments that save lives.

Requirements

  • Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification required or graduate of an approved laboratory assistant course or Diploma/Degree in Health or Science required.
  • Excellent data entry skills required - keyboarding skills minimum 40 WPM.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of AS400 Data Entry system/LIS
  • Knowledge of MERLIN
  • Experience in Cytology
  • MLPAO designation
  • Customer service and problem-solving experience and experience working with CRM (Customer Relationship Management)

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of samples and/or reagents for routine processing.
  • Perform simple non-interpretive tests under the technical oversight of a Senior Clinical Laboratory Assistant or Medical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Ensure quality control checks and standards are run as required.
  • Independently perform simple non-interpretive tests escalating to a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist for support and guidance as required.
  • Participate in all quality assurance programs and ensure company and Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines are observed.
  • Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as appropriate and deal with problems that arise.
  • Ensure that all samples are properly labeled and identified before testing.
  • Follow established protocol for the handling of unsuitable samples.
  • Operate complex instruments following department procedures.
  • Perform simple non-interpretive testing procedures.
  • Ensure that all abnormal, critical and STATS are processed as outlined in the department guidelines.
  • Responsible for the follow-up on missing samples, documentation and results as and when required.
  • Ensure all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ensure adequate amount of supplies are on hand and that validated reagents and testing kits to be used are in date order.
  • Data enter the results into the company’s database as required.
  • Ensure that quality control checks are performed as required in documented work procedures.
  • Refer results for Medical Laboratory Technologist to review.
  • Responsible for monitoring quality control guidelines and making appropriate corrections.
  • Responsible to follow all relevant pre and/or post analytical quality protocols as described in the company quality assurance manual.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance following documented procedures.
  • Document all maintenance performed, including minor troubleshooting following manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Observe and report all malfunctions in equipment and maintain all required logbooks for routine equipment.
  • Responsible for disinfecting the work area and equipment on a daily basis.
  • Store and discard specimens according to appropriate department procedure manuals.
