About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant works in the Laboratory Department at Texas Health Rockwall. The position includes phlebotomy duties and specimen processing, following laboratory procedures for specimen collection, patient identification, labeling, and test procedures. The employee provides age-appropriate patient treatment, follows quality control and HIPAA guidelines, and may assist with orientation and training of students, volunteers, new employees, and observers. The department describes itself as a medium-size hospital that supports work-life balance and educational and career growth. Most shifts are 12 hours, with day shifts from 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and night shifts from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Weekend and night availability is required for this PRN role.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

Six months of experience as a phlebotomist or completion of a one-semester phlebotomy course.
Phlebotomy Technician certification (PBT(ASCP)) upon hire.
Venipuncture skills with all age groups.

Responsibilities

Follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection, patient identification, and labeling, as appropriate for the patient's age.
Follow established laboratory test procedures.
Demonstrate competence in age-appropriate patient treatment and individualize care based on age-specific criteria.
Perform specimen processing protocols.
Participate in orientation and training of students, volunteers, new employees, and observers.
Follow quality control guidelines.
Follow HIPAA guidelines.
