About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Clinical Lab Specialist (CLS) ensures timely workflow, maintains proper documentation, follows safety and compliance protocols, and provides widespread support across laboratory departments. This role involves specimen processing, equipment operation and maintenance, inventory management, system utilization, training, and adherence to safety and document control procedures. Specific duties may include patient registration, test ordering, specimen evaluation and preparation, operating laboratory equipment, managing supply inventory, using HIS and LIS software, assisting with training, and following standard operating policies and procedures. The role also includes specific responsibilities within the Blood Bank, such as managing blood product inventory, preparing blood products for transfusion, and irradiation of blood products. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient registration and test ordering, verifies patient information, ensures timely specimen handling, and resolves processing issues to maintain accuracy and efficient workflow.
  • Evaluates and prepares specimens for testing, ensuring proper labeling, distribution, storage, and processing according to established guidelines.
  • Assists technical Team Members by performing duties assigned in loading of samples, performing maintenance.
  • Operates laboratory equipment according to procedures, troubleshoots issues or contacts support, documents temperatures, and maintains a clean, organized workspace as required.
  • Monitors and manages supply inventory, checks expiration dates, stores received items and keeps the storage areas clean and organized.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of HIS and LIS software applications for job-related functions.
  • Assists with training of new team members or students as required.
