This position is accountable for performing clinical laboratory testing, following all applicable policies and procedures. The Clinical Lab Scientist I performs moderate to highly complex clinical tests, prepares reagents, tests new reagents, determines specimen acceptability, calculates results, enters results accurately, and monitors computer review reports. They adhere to analytical schedules, evaluate the acceptability of analyses, and respond to critical values or unusual results. The role also involves equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, quality control, and proficiency testing. The Clinical Lab Scientist I ensures accurate tracking and labeling of supplies, maintains a safe work area, and demonstrates effective communication. They participate in staff and Quality Improvement meetings, may take on additional projects like evaluating new techniques or writing procedures, and must follow all safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines. Waste disposal, confidentiality, and supervision/training of unlicensed staff are also key responsibilities. The role requires maintaining professional growth through continuing education to meet California state licensure requirements, answering phones, and complying with health and safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment. Other duties as assigned.
