About The Position

The Clinical Lab Associate IV is responsible for supporting the Specimen Processing Supervisor in leading the day-to-day operations of the Specimen Processing Department. This includes managing lab productivity and processing line support. Tasks may involve creating task schedules, assisting with employee 1:1 documentation and conversations, aiding in interviews, delivering employee feedback, conducting quality and safety investigations, performing root cause analysis, recommending and implementing corrective actions, supporting workflow and automation management, and creating/editing standard operating procedures. The role also involves leading team meetings. The Clinical Lab Associate IV must adhere to all Laboratory policies and procedures, maintain accurate data reporting, and ensure diligent execution of Specimen Processing to support the mission and vision of Abbott Cancer Diagnostics. This position operates under the guided direction of the Specimen Processing Supervisor.

Requirements

High School Degree/General Education Diploma.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
3+ years of experience working in a laboratory, medical or high throughput environment.
2+ years of experience leading, mentoring and/or coaching others with or without direct reports.
General knowledge and understanding of CAP, GLP, GDP, CLIA, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), and HIPAA.
Intermediate knowledge and experience using Internet navigation, email, Microsoft Office Suite.
Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, or related field.
4+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory or 3.5 years in Cologuard Clinical Lab.
2+ years of experience leading a team of direct reports or 3+ years of leading, mentoring and/or coaching others without direct reports.
Experience in troubleshooting automation and performing instrument maintenance.
Lean experience (Kaizen, Kanban, root cause analysis, countermeasure implementation, etc.).

Responsibilities

Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
Maintain documentation of problems and problem resolutions following Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Work with leadership to develop department goals that align with organizational priorities.

Support operational initiatives including, but not limited to, quality and process improvements, SOP development, department inspections and audits.
Assist and support the Clinical Lab Training Department; including, but not limited to, reviewing department specific training materials, identifying additional training needs/resources, and providing training, as needed.
Complete all mandatory training assignments and annual competencies within established timelines.
Handle and dispose of all specimens following standard precautions and applicable safety policies.
