About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant - PRN position at Texas Health Alliance is a vital role within the Laboratory Department. This position is crucial as 70.25% of all hospital decisions are based on lab results, highlighting the impact of this role. The assistant will work as a generalist, rotating through various departments. This is a small, collaborative unit that works effectively with other hospital departments to provide excellent patient care in a strong team environment. The department fosters a lean six sigma culture, emphasizing innovation, mindfulness, collaboration, agility, and vibrancy.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent required
  • CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency required
  • 6 Months experience as a phlebotomist or
  • Completion of a one semester course in phlebotomy preferred or
  • Hospital experience preferred
  • PBT(ASCP) - Phlebotomy Technician Upon Hire Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Follows laboratory procedure for specimen collection, patient identification and labeling as appropriate for the age of the patient.
  • Follows laboratory procedures for handling, and processing in a manner which is appropriate and follows safety guidelines.
  • Follows laboratory procedures for handling unacceptable specimens.
  • Follows established laboratory test procedures.
  • Performs procedures in other areas of the Laboratory as required by hospital entity.
  • Reports and evaluates test results.
  • Facilitates workflow process.
  • Helps other hospitals and laboratory coworkers to provide timely patient care.
  • Processes specimens.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform specimen processing protocols.
  • Participates in orientation and training of students, volunteers, new employees, and observers.
  • Maintains commitment to profession by attending continuing education sessions. (ex. Web seminars, ASCP seminars, Tarleton and Lab sponsored seminars by industry).
  • Follows quality control guidelines.
  • Performs quality control and equipment maintenance.
  • Incorporates safety/infection control measures into work practices.
