About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Clinical Lab Specialist (CLS) ensures timely workflow, maintains proper documentation, follows safety and compliance protocols, and provides widespread support across laboratory departments. At Atlantic Health System, we have skilled medical technicians who can collect blood for diagnostic and screening purposes in a family-friendly environment. Laboratories are open any time during regular business hours. COVID-19 testing is available at some Atlantic Health System outpatient laboratories and centers, as well as a sensory room in the Atlantic Health Children’s Specialty Center at Morristown offers a calming space to help make your family’s lab visit a caring and compassionate experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient registration and test ordering, verifies patient information, ensures timely specimen handling, and resolves processing issues to maintain accuracy and efficient workflow.
  • Evaluates and prepares specimens for testing, ensuring proper labeling, distribution, storage, and processing according to established guidelines.
  • Assists technical Team Members by performing duties assigned in loading of samples, performing maintenance.
  • Operates laboratory equipment according to procedures, troubleshoots issues or contacts support, documents temperatures, and maintains a clean, organized workspace as required.
  • Monitors and manages supply inventory, checks expiration dates, stores received items and keeps the storage areas clean and organized.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of HIS and LIS software applications for job-related functions.
  • Assists with training of new team members or students as required.
  • Completes mandatory continuing education.
  • Follows PPE protocols and ensures a clean, safe workspace.
  • Follows all approved standard operating policies and procedures
