About The Position

The Clinical Lab Assistant performs phlebotomy using various venipuncture techniques to collect blood directly from patients of all ages and is familiar with patient and specimen requirements for these tests. The role also performs clinical support duties involved in identifying, collecting, receiving, and processing clinical specimens for laboratory analysis, including preparing specimens for transport to outside laboratories when applicable. The employee follows safety, infection control, and OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen guidelines. The position works under the direction of the Supervisor Laboratory Non-Technical.

The schedule is 1:00 PM–9:30 PM, with weekend coverage. The role is based in the laboratory; at the Concord site, it includes travel to off-site locations for phlebotomy collections. Physical work requirements include light material handling, with regular lifting, carrying, or pushing/pulling of up to 10 pounds and frequent handling of up to 20 pounds. The work involves regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids and frequent exposure to airborne pathogens.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to clients in a professional and compassionate manner.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to perform in emergent or crisis situations.
• Follow safety, infection control, and OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen guidelines.

Nice To Haves

• Phlebotomy training with a completed externship.
• Phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting.
• Clinical support experience in specimen processing.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and process venous and capillary blood samples required for laboratory analysis from patients of all ages upon request.
• Process clinical specimens for delivery to laboratory departments and for pickup by reference laboratories, when applicable.
• Perform all duties within assigned work blocks.
• Demonstrate compliance with corporate, departmental, and job-specific requirements.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and disinfection in the Specimen Processing area.
• At the Concord site, travel to off-site locations for phlebotomy collections.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
