About The Position

The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Department of Psychiatry is seeking a full-time, fixed-term Licensed Clinical Social Work hire. This role will be part of a multidisciplinary team including pediatricians, pediatric psychologists, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) faculty. The position will focus on the North Carolina Children’s Hospital Consultation and Liaison service and the affiliated Behavioral Medical Integrative Health cohort. The primary clinical responsibilities involve assessment, consultation, and treatment for pediatric inpatients, specifically toddlers to older adolescents with chronic medical illnesses. This includes working with parents/guardians on grief-related issues. A portion of the role will involve administrative tasks, managing communication between the CAP team and pediatric physicians, residents, and staff. The position also requires developing an outpatient service for children and families, addressing mental health needs such as depression, behavioral diagnoses, and anxiety, with or without co-occurring medical illness. Direct patient care and clinical case management will be provided to children and families, particularly those with medical illness or trauma, who are receiving care from UNC pediatricians. Consultations will also be provided to children with new diagnoses or frequent hospitalizations while they are inpatients at NC Children’s Hospital. The successful candidate will collaborate with psychiatrists and psychologists on the CAP service, participate in team meetings, and contribute to interdisciplinary treatment planning. Consultation with pediatricians, residents, and allied health services is also a key component.

Requirements

  • Licensed Clinical Social Work hire
  • Strong multi-disciplinary consultative skills
  • Knowledge of the promotion of coping in children and families with medical illness
  • Experience in empirically valid models of therapy known to have success in medical populations (e.g., anxiety and depression based CBT skills, Motivational Interviewing, and ACT or similar)

Responsibilities
