About The Position

The University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Dentistry is seeking a full-time, non-tenure clinical faculty member for the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry. This role is ideal for someone passionate about teaching, mentoring future dentists, and pursuing a long-term career in academic dentistry. The position involves a blend of clinical education, patient care, and academic operations, directly influencing the development of pre-doctoral dental students. Based in the Division of General Practice, which operates on a Group Practice model with eight group practices, the 40-hour work week will align with scheduled clinic hours, Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm, including evening clinics from 4:00-6:30 pm.

Requirements

• DMD or DDS from a CODA-accredited institution, or a foreign equivalent dental degree.
• Eligibility for a teaching dental license in Maryland.
• A minimum of 5 years of clinical practice in a comprehensive general dentistry setting.
• Solid hands-on experience in comprehensive patient care, including phased treatment planning, operative and direct restorative dentistry, single-unit indirect restorations, urgent dental care, post-operative management, and generating appropriate referrals.
• Working proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S. (H-1B visa sponsorship is not available).

Responsibilities

• Teaching in the predoctoral dental clinic and supervising students providing patient care.
• Mentoring assigned students on their academic and clinical progress throughout the clinical curriculum.
• Managing patient care with students within their assigned group practice.
• Tracking student progress and collaborating with academic affairs on student deficiencies.
• Teaching and directing appropriate predoctoral courses related to the department, including treatment planning, restorative dentistry, and diagnostic sciences.
• Assisting staff, faculty, and administration in training adjunct faculty for clinical calibration.
• Supporting quality assurance, compliance, and improvement initiatives in conjunction with the Division Director and the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.
• Responding to operational needs and special assignments from the Chair of the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry.
• Contributing as a team member in identifying problems and developing solutions.
