About The Position

This is a part-time adjunct faculty position for a Clinical Instructor in the Master's in Applied Behavior Analysis program. The role involves supervising students in a clinical setting, providing direct instruction, and evaluating their progress. The instructor will model professional behavior, utilize evidence-based practices, and maintain communication with university staff and site personnel. The position requires adherence to John Carroll University's mission and vision, as well as professional and ethical guidelines in behavior analysis.

Requirements

• Master’s degree.
• BCBA certification, and state licensure (if applicable).
• At least 3 years of clinical practice experience.
• Meet all Supervisor Qualifications as set forth by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (if applicable).
• Maintain criminal history and background check clearance.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Maintain necessary certifications to be current in practice as necessary.
• Excellent time management, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Follow ethical and professional guidelines.
• Be responsible and accountable for practice based on, and limited to, the scope of instructor’s education, demonstrated competence, and behavior analytic experience.
• Possess thorough knowledge of current behavior analytic practices.
• Has knowledge of and utilizes assent-based practices.
• Obtain instruction, supervision, and consultation as necessary before implementing new or unfamiliar techniques or practices.
• Maintain knowledge in current, best evidence influencing clinical nursing practice in the area of specialty.
• Conduct behavior analytic practice without discrimination.
• Respect client’s right to privacy by protecting confidential information.
• Participates in university orientation as required by John Carroll University.

Responsibilities

• Models professional behavior and standards of practice.
• Utilizes current evidence-based practices while teaching students in the clinical setting.
• Establishes rapport and maintains necessary communication with JCU Fieldwork Coordinator, student, and site personnel.
• Provides 25 hours of direct supervision to the assigned student over the course of the semester (approximately 5 months).
• Represents John Carroll University professionally and appropriately at all times.
• Supports the mission and vision of John Carroll University.
• Provide ongoing verbal and/or written feedback to students on progress in the clinical setting using JCU supervision progress reports.
• Reports to the Fieldwork Coordinator and/or Master’s in Applied Behavior Analysis Program Director and collaborates with lead course faculty.
• Reviews course syllabi with students to understand assignments.
• Completes student evaluations on a monthly, bi-semester, and semester basis.
• Meets with the lead course instructor to review student evaluations of the clinical instructor.
• Directs, instructs, and guides students in the clinical setting.
• Assigns students weekly to selected patients based on learning needs and patient assessment.
• Assists students in collecting pertinent objective and subjective data regarding patient health status.
• Engages students in comprehensive, individualized instruction in the observation, assessment, decision-making, and health teaching of patients.
• Facilitates the development of student’s critical thinking, technical, and professional communication skills.
• Assists students in using the nursing process when providing care.
• Supervises the administration of medications.
• Delegates selected nursing functions to students in accordance with their level of nursing education and demonstrated competency.
• Provides students with written instructions for what to do in case of injury or illness in the clinical setting.
• Participates in course delivery, skills lab, and simulation as needed.
• Directs students to be responsible and accountable for their behaviors in the clinical setting.
• Communicates with students, the supervision coordinator, and lead course faculty regarding student progress.
• Collaborates with the supervision coordinator and lead course faculty to refer students to college services as necessary.
• Grades written assignments, maintains accurate records, and returns graded work to students in a timely manner.
• Holds student pre- and post-clinical conferences.
• Completes clinical evaluations as well as a mid-term and final clinical evaluation for each student.
• Holds instructor conversations regarding student performance in private and maintains confidentiality.
• Adheres to FERPA privacy policies.
