About The Position

The IT Clinical Informatics Specialist serves as the primary liaison between clinical operations and the Information Technology department across both hospital and outpatient clinic settings. This role supports, optimizes, educates, and advances the use of electronic health records (EHR) and clinical systems to improve patient safety, workflow efficiency, documentation quality, and regulatory compliance. The position bridges clinical practice and technology by translating clinical needs into effective, secure, standardized, and well-adopted system solutions.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare informatics, Nursing, Information Technology, Education, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5 years of experience in healthcare IT, clinical informatics, EHR education, or clinical systems support
  • Experience supporting and educating users on EHR systems in hospital and/or ambulatory settings
  • Strong understanding of inpatient and outpatient clinical workflows
  • Excellent communication, teaching, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to translate clinical and technical concepts into effective education and training
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across hospital and clinic environments
  • Strong documentation, training, and presentation skills
  • Comfortable working directly with providers, nursing, and leadership
  • Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.
  • Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.
  • Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical background (RN, LPN, MA, or similar) or strong enterprise EHR experience
  • Experience in a rural hospital or multi-site healthcare environment
  • EHR certification or advanced vendor-specific training
  • Experience supporting accreditation, quality, or regulatory initiatives
  • Adult education, training, or instructional design experience

Responsibilities

  • Support and optimize clinical workflows across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and ancillary departments
  • Analyze current-state workflows and recommend system improvements aligned with best practices
  • Partner with clinicians to standardize documentation, order sets, and clinical processes
  • Support new service lines, clinic expansions, and operational changes
  • Provide Tier 2/3 support for hospital and clinic EHR-related issues
  • Assist with EHR configuration, testing, validation, and optimization
  • Participate in upgrades, enhancements, and system change management
  • Support integration and functionality of clinical devices and peripherals
  • Serve as a primary educator for EHR and clinical system use across hospital and clinic settings
  • Develop and deliver onboarding, refresher, and role-based EHR training for providers and staff
  • Create and maintain training materials, job aids, tip sheets, and workflow documentation
  • Provide at-the-elbow support during go-lives, upgrades, and new feature rollouts
  • Identify training gaps and proactively educate users on best practices and system optimization
  • Support provider efficiency, documentation quality, and appropriate system utilization through education.
  • Assist clinical and operational leaders with reports, dashboards, and data validation
  • Support quality, patient safety, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Promote accurate clinical documentation and data integrity
  • Ensure clinical system use aligns with organizational policies, HIPAA, and cybersecurity standards
  • Educate users on appropriate system use, data privacy, and security best practices
  • Support audits, accreditation surveys, and regulatory reviews
  • Promote role-based access and least-privilege principles within clinical systems
  • Serve as a liaison between clinical departments, IT, vendors, and leadership
  • Participate in informatics, EHR, and clinical governance committees
  • Identify opportunities for standardization, education, and continuous improvement across hospital and clinics
