The Clinical Informaticist plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between clinical practice and information technology. Responsible for creating, supporting, and maintaining digital solutions to solve clinical problems. Demonstrates proficiency in performing information capture, data mining, data aggregation, analysis, visualization, and reporting, to support operations, research, data utilization, and data-driven decision making. ARUP Laboratories is a national clinical and anatomic pathology reference laboratory and an enterprise of the University of Utah and its Department of Pathology. Based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Requirements

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
  • PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
  • Color Vision: Perception of and ability to distinguish colors
  • Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the clinical information needs of stakeholders.
  • Queries and analyzes laboratory and other healthcare data from internal and external systems to glean meaningful clinical insights.
  • Creates, collaborates on, and maintains data visualizations and dashboards to communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Develops, collaborates on, maintains, validates, documents, and supports digital solutions using: Relational databases in Microsoft SQL Server, ETL processes with SSIS, Tableau, VBA, python, or other programming languages, Statistical tools such as JMP, R, or Anaconda, Data architecture knowledge, Healthcare software and data knowledge.
  • Utilizes medical terminologies and ontologies for organizing and managing structured data.
  • Provides input on the proper selection of LOINC and SNOMED codes.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and standards related to health information technology.
  • Supports the processes, tools, security, and quality around clinical information applications and systems.
  • Shares knowledge in methods of data analysis, visualization, and presentation.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders including medical directors, pathologists, R&D, IT, and laboratory management and staff.
  • Actively seeks opportunities to advance their software knowledge, data manipulation skills, and understanding of existing and emerging regulations, technologies, and data sets within the healthcare industry.
  • Other duties as assigned.
