About The Position

Under the supervision of the Cardiac Services Manager and Cardiology Medical Director, the Clinical Exercise Physiologist provides services for patients in various modalities of cardiology testing and therapies. Diagnostic services are delivered in collaboration with physicians and the healthcare team. This role requires assessing patients prior to stress tests, determining appropriate procedures and protocols, and managing potential complications during and after exercise. The position also involves completing data forms, organizing results, ensuring compliance with standards, and maintaining necessary records and equipment.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology or related field required.
  • BLS Certified
  • ACLS required within 3 months of hire
  • ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification within 6 months of hire
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Stress Testing
  • Knowledge of ACSM Stress Testing Guidelines
  • Excellent computer skills to include review and abstraction of data within electronic health record.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team approach in working with various stakeholders.
  • Must possess sound dexterity and visual acuity, requires mental alertness, stamina to work in a fast-paced environment or in emergency situations.
  • Must have the ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, and reach without restriction; the ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds using good body mechanics, must be able to push heavy equipment, stretchers, and wheelchairs.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients prior to stress tests, determines appropriate procedures and protocols to follow, and special precautions if needed.
  • Performs measurements of blood pressure in accordance with established protocols.
  • Recognizes clinical problems prior to and during exercise, such as significant arrhythmia, evidence of severe ischemia/infarction, fall/rapid rise in blood pressures, symptoms, and patient appearance.
  • Initiates management of complications of exercise including rhythm disturbances, hypotension, chest discomfort, or evidence of severe persistent ischemia.
  • Determines when the test should be terminated due to medical reasons or for patient tolerance.
  • Carefully monitors patient during recovery, recognizes safe completion of recovery period and remains alert for post-exercise complications.
  • Contacts the covering physician with occurrence of any condition that might suggest a medically hazardous condition.
  • Completes all data forms and organizes results in preparation for the final report.
  • Ensures compliance with DNV standards as well as hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintains necessary records and files in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Appropriately addresses equipment maintenance, calibration and supply needs.
