About The Position

The Clinical Engineering team is responsible for the management, maintenance, integration, and lifecycle support of medical technology across the health system. Working closely with clinical, operational, and information technology teams, the department ensures that medical devices are safe, reliable, compliant, and optimized to support patient care. Key responsibilities include medical device integration, technology planning and acquisition, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of clinical equipment. The team also plays a critical role in regulatory compliance by ensuring adherence to Joint Commission standards and applicable safety codes. Through proactive equipment rounding, incident investigations, and collaboration with manufacturers on recalls and corrective actions, Clinical Engineering drives continuous quality improvement and operational excellence throughout the organization. Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering services to medical and research areas including: selection, acquisition and service of medical devices, project management, technical investigations of clinical incidents, clinical/technical problem-solving, system design, and solution of novel system and technical problems.
  • Leads teams comprised of engineers and technicians.
  • Educates and advises medical and technical staff on medical technologies.
  • Leads quality improvement activities.
  • Suggests innovative solutions to technical problems.
  • Responsible for moderate to the most complex equipment management by working with a multidisciplinary team of internal and external customers and stakeholders to identify needs, coordinates purchases, manages installations, organizes in-service trainings, plans for the handoff to day-to-day operations, and documents projects.
  • Works in conjunction with the Device Integration Team and/or clinical departments to design, implement, and analyze new medical equipment evaluations and trials and device integration projects.
  • Recommends and implements strategies for management of technology in assigned clinical areas in or around clinical/non-clinical devices.
  • Responsible for reporting clinical incidents involving medical devices and disseminating information to all necessary parties.
  • Communicates to manufacturers about problems with medical devices and ensures appropriate response.
  • Responses to and addresses recalls/remediations, contract management, and department policy and procedure tasks.
  • Ensures all program components support Joint Commission and various other state and local codes that relate to electrical and mechanical safety.
  • Performs rounds on clinical (patient care) units to verify proper equipment use and operation.
  • Maintains knowledge of and advises hospital personnel of codes and regulations regarding clinical devices and support facilities.
  • Diagnoses and solves technical and/or system problems of high complexity.
  • Develops and monitors compliance with equipment preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Leads complex and/or large projects through all stages of a project plan.
  • Serves on internal and/or external hospital committees and working groups.
