About The Position

The Long-Term Care Clinical Educator plays a key role in advancing clinical excellence and workforce capability across assigned homes. Reporting to the Director of Clinical Training & Simulation, this role partners with operational leaders and frontline teams to deliver engaging, evidence-informed learning experiences. Through education, simulation, coaching, and competency development, the Clinical Educator supports safe practice, staff confidence, and high-quality resident care. This position is instrumental in strengthening onboarding, promoting continuous learning, and translating best practices into day-to-day clinical care. We are currently recruiting two roles in Eastern Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Current Instructor BCLS/CPR certification.
  • Experience in clinical education, adult learning, or staff development.
  • Knowledge of long-term care standards and infection prevention practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with quality improvement and resident safety principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, virtual learning, and LMS platforms.
  • Ability to travel regularly across multiple sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Education, or leadership (asset).
  • Experience with simulation-based education and multi-site environments (asset).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver onboarding, orientation, and clinical education programs for regulated and unregulated staff.
  • Facilitate hands-on skills training, bedside teaching, and competency-based learning.
  • Support workforce readiness and transition-to-practice through ongoing education.
  • Validate clinical competencies and ensure safe practice standards are met.
  • Design and deliver simulation-based and experiential learning activities.
  • Facilitate structured debriefing and reflective learning discussions.
  • Promote critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and resident-centered care.
  • Partner with leaders to identify learning needs and practice gaps.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and practice support to frontline staff.
  • Support quality improvement and resident safety initiatives.
  • Assist with implementation and sustainment of clinical best practices.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training using feedback, participation, and outcomes data.
  • Monitor learning outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement of programs.
  • Act as a clinical education resource across assigned homes/regions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of LTC standards, education practices, and clinical developments.
