Summary: The OR Clinical Educator is a vital member of the Surgical Services leadership team, responsible for advancing clinical practice, supporting staff competency, and promoting excellence in patient care across a fast‑paced and high‑acuity perioperative environment. This role ensures that all OR staff receive the education, orientation, and ongoing development needed to safely care for surgical patients and to meet regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. The Clinical Educator serves as a clinical expert, mentor, resource, and facilitator of evidence‑based practice within the operating room and procedural areas. The OR Clinical Educator is responsible for developing and coordinating onboarding and orientation for new perioperative staff while delivering ongoing education to ensure competency in surgical procedures, equipment, and regulatory compliance. This role provides hands‑on clinical instruction and real‑time coaching in the operating room, supports the implementation of new technology, and promotes evidence‑based practice following AORN standards and accreditation requirements. The educator serves as a clinical resource for staff and providers, collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia, and interdisciplinary teams to identify learning needs, and assists with quality improvement initiatives, safety rounding, and policy compliance. Additional responsibilities include maintaining annual competencies and skill validations, supporting emergency readiness education, participating in incident reviews and root‑cause analysis, mentoring staff toward professional growth and certification, facilitating communication between leadership and frontline staff, and assisting leadership with onboarding strategies and staff development.

Requirements

  • RN license
  • BSN (with MSN or education‑focused degree preferred)
  • Three to five years of OR experience
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation
  • Strong communication, critical‑thinking, and leadership skills
