About The Position

The EMS Educator II provides EMT class instruction to adult learners and maintains department equipment and service records. The position also maintains and updates policy and procedure manuals. The educator may teach ACLS, PALS, and ITLS/BTLS if they hold the corresponding instructor certifications. The role includes preparing lesson plans for high school and adult EMT classes, adapting instruction and materials to learners’ ages and learning styles, and supporting learning assessment and competency development.

Requirements

EMT or Paramedic certificate.
Four years of emergency services experience.
One year of educator experience.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) — American Heart Association.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) — American Heart Association.
Instructor certifications for ACLS, PALS, and ITLS/BTLS, if teaching those courses.

Responsibilities

Inspect and troubleshoot department equipment, ensuring it operates properly and arranging maintenance as appropriate.
Maintain department equipment through a regular service schedule and updated service records.
Manage preventive maintenance and develop a preventive maintenance program for all equipment.
Prepare lesson plans for high school and adult EMT classes, adapting materials and plans to students’ learning styles and ages.
Facilitate learning for groups of different ages.
Write evaluation instruments and administer tests to assess outcomes, competency, and mastery of content.
Represent the department at in-house and community events as directed.
Maintain and update policy and procedure manuals.
Teach EMT classes to adult learners and, if appropriately certified, teach ACLS, PALS, and ITLS/BTLS.
