The Laboratory Animal Medicine (LAM) Residency Program is a two-year period of professional service training designed to equip residents with the knowledge and experience necessary to become competent laboratory animal veterinarians. The program aims to provide a working knowledge of biomedical research operations, familiarize residents with specific research projects and the research culture at Wake Forest School of Medicine (WFSM), offer research opportunities and mentorship for writing a first-author research paper to meet American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) requirements, and prepare residents for future participation as members of research teams. Upon satisfactory performance and mutual interest, eligible residents may enter the T32 research fellowship (Laboratory Animal and Comparative Medicine Training). Trainees aiming for board certification by ACLAM must complete all ACLAM training requirements and maintain professional service skills.
