About The Position

Driscoll Children’s Hospital is seeking a part-time Clinical Dietitian to join their Clinical Nutrition team. Part-time employees work 20 to 32 hours a week in inpatient and outpatient units. Driscoll Children’s Hospital is the first free-standing pediatric hospital in South Texas, serving children and adolescents of Corpus Christi and surrounding communities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in nutrition or related field from an ACEND-accredited program
  • Completion of ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship (Level I)
  • New graduate to 3 years experience (Level I)
  • Minimum of 3 years (6,240 hours) of direct clinical nutrition care (Level II)
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in nutrition care, education, counseling, private practice, community/public health, school system, long-term care or related field with valid NDTR credential or other professional designation (Level III)
  • Food Manager/Food Safety Certification within 90 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
  • Current Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential through the CDR
  • Obtain Texas state licensure (TDLR) within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Master’s degree or specialty certification (e.g., CSP, CSPCC, RDN-AP) (Level II or III)
  • Experience in specialized pediatric programs (e.g., NICU, oncology, feeding disorders) (Level II or III)
  • Advanced or specialty certification (e.g., RDN-AP, CSP, CSPCC) (Preferred for Level II or III)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based nutrition support to patients and families across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Perform comprehensive nutrition assessments.
  • Develop individualized care plans.
  • Provide education to patients and caregivers.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians and nurses on interdisciplinary care.
  • Monitor medical nutrition therapy.
  • Verify diet and formula orders.
  • Document in the EMR.
  • Ensure accurate billing.
  • Focuses on building foundational clinical skills and gaining pediatric nutrition experience while delivering patient care under general supervision (Level I).
  • Applies evidence-based practice, participates in interdisciplinary care, and continues professional development (Level I).
  • Demonstrates increased autonomy and routinely manages more complex cases (Level II).
  • Serves as a clinical resource across the system (Level II).
  • Contributes to quality improvement initiatives (Level II).
  • May precept interns or junior team members (Level II).
  • Serves as a clinical and professional expert with the highest level of authority in nutrition practice (Level III).
  • Leads complex patient care (Level III).
  • Ensures consistency in evidence-based practice (Level III).
  • Mentors staff (Level III).
  • Represents the department in interdisciplinary and organizational initiatives (Level III).
