Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years dietary experience in a health care facility, with concentration in nutritional assessment and planning.
  • Current Registration with the American Dietetic Association (RD or RDN) or similar organization and licensure per state of practice required.

Responsibilities

  • Approves menus including modified diets.
  • Provides nutritional assessments for patients as needed.
  • Provides counsel to patients and their families on dietary plans, food selections, preparation, and nutritional principles.
  • Monitors the performance improvement plans of the Dietary Services department.
  • Provides input in the development and implementation of patient care plans in relation to nutritional needs.
  • Consults with patients and family members concerning dietary needs and goals.
  • May instruct patients and/or families regarding diet therapy programs.
  • Coordinates Dietary Services Department with JCAHO standards for food service and assists Dietary Manager as needed.
  • Plans modified diets for patients as requested by attending physician/licensed practitioner.
  • Communicates to Dietary team in a timely manner.
  • Performs nutritional assessments in a timely manner.
  • Monitors and documents patient care in regard to therapeutic diets.
  • Reviews patients’ charts to determine need for nutritional assessments.
  • Documents patient charts with nutritional planning, and updates as changes in nutritional needs occur.
