About The Position

The University of Iowa Healthcare department of Food & Nutrition is seeking a Clinical Dietitian II or Dietitian I. As part of the Advanced Nutrition Support Team, this role provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to adult patients requiring Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and complicated enteral nutrition. The position involves participating as a member of the medical care team, performing Nutrition Focused Physical Exams, and educating medical staff, medical students, and dietetic students. The role utilizes the Nutrition Care Process to assess, evaluate, and provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling for adult and geriatric outpatients and inpatients. Additionally, the position involves teaching Master of Clinical Nutrition Students and participating in multidisciplinary teams to develop nutritional components of care. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles appropriate to the patient’s age and status. University of Iowa Healthcare is Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center and a regional referral center, recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States. The department intends to hire one candidate from either Critical Care Clinical Dietitian I or Critical Care Clinical Dietitian II based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa is required.
  • For Clinical Dietitian I: Candidates registered prior to January 1 2024, a Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics is required.
  • For Clinical Dietitian II: 5-7 years of clinical nutrition experience.
  • For Clinical Dietitian II: Experience making enteral and parenteral recommendations and selecting appropriate formulas.

Nice To Haves

  • A Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) certification is desirable or must be willing to obtain within the first year of employment.
