About The Position

The Clinical Diet Technician interprets the nutritional needs of Members, plans diets and instructs Members according to the physician’s diet orders in accordance with current practices and overview of Clinical Nutrition Manager and Director of Dining Services. The salary range is a reflection of many similar like positions and your actual compensation may not be at the high or low end of the range but will be based on your unique skills and other criteria mentioned. Requirements

  • Associate of Applied Science degree in food and nutrition.
  • NDTR credential from Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Dependable, report to work on-time for every schedule shift (ready to work at beginning - start of shift) and work full schedule shifts unless physically unable or pre-approved Paid Time Off (PTO) which includes personal and vacation.
  • Must be clean and neat in appearance and have a “friendly,” hospitality-oriented, and service-oriented personality.
  • Abide by work-related / job procedures and organization policies; (refer to the Employee Handbook).

  • Diet Technician NYS licensure preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Works in partnership with the registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) to screen, evaluate and educate patients, manage and prevent diseases such as diabetes and obesity, and monitors patients' and clients' progress.
  • Gathers data and performs other tasks to assist the RDN in providing medical nutrition therapy to Members. Gathers information for RDN to assist completion of quarterly, annual and significant change nutritional assessments; assists with gathering information related to members nutritional needs ie weights, hydration and other pertinent information. Assists with nutritional care plans, adhering to sound documentation practices.
  • Performs own diet changes and changes to members meal plans via Blueprint computer system. Performs own copying and clerical responsibilities.
  • Charts pertinent observations and nutritional progress in Members' medical charts.
  • Assists in the ongoing education of tray-line personnel and other kitchen personnel regarding the basic foods allowed for regular, soft, bland, pureed, sodium controlled, calculated, residue restricted and liquid diets.
  • Responsible in conjunction with nursing for cost containment of floor supplies and nourishments.
  • Visits Members during meal service to assure proper service and assess Member satisfaction.
  • Participates in the quality assurance program and conducts nutritional in-services. Assists in maintaining quality with in the clinical and operational areas of department.
  • Attends patient care conferences.
  • Assists in menu development.
  • Participates in continuing education activities to maintain registration, if applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Clinical Nutrition Manager.
