The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is looking for an academic Clinical Cytogeneticist with a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD. This position is available on a tenure-track, tenured, fixed-term, or variable track at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. The UNC Hospitals Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory is a comprehensive facility that handles approximately 4,500 constitutional (prenatal and postnatal) and cancer cytogenetic tests each year. The role involves overseeing and directing the daily operations of the clinical cytogenetics diagnostic service, signing out laboratory cases (conventional cytogenetics, FISH, and SNP microarray), troubleshooting technical and analytical issues, and developing new assays. All faculty members are expected to educate diverse learners, including medical students, pathology and medical genetics residents, and fellows from programs such as Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, Molecular Genetic Pathology, and Maternal Fetal Medicine. There are also opportunities to participate in ongoing research projects, some of which incorporate next-generation sequencing.
