Reporting to the Director of Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), the Clinical Counselor provides a full-range of individual and group psychological services to students, who represent a wide range of multicultural backgrounds, presenting complex psychosocial, personal, and family issues. The Clinical Counselor effectively represents CAPS as a member of the University faculty, and performs additional professional services as individual skills, interests, and agency needs indicate. This position is a full-time, twelve-month position. While the position is classified as “temporary,” the expectation is that it will be renewed annually contingent on performance, departmental needs, and budgetary constraints. At this time, CAPS is providing both in-person and remote (via Zoom) services to students. This position offers some flexibility with in-person and remote work contingent on department coverage and needs. Mostly in-person work is required; there is no option for full remote work. The successful candidate will maintain a clinical caseload of students representing the diversity of SF State students. Clinical counselors shall spend at least 60-65% of their time base providing direct services. The duties of this position are focused on: intake and assessment/triage; provision of brief individual, group, and couples counseling (using time-limited treatment models); outreach; referrals; crisis intervention; and consultation. There may be other duties as assigned as well. At all times, the candidate will demonstrate behaviors that are in line with the User Friendly Principles (P530C) and Principles of Conduct for a Multi-Cultural University (P30D); and demonstrate safe work practices for oneself, others and the office environment.
