About The Position

CBI Health is seeking a Clinical Counsellor to join their team. Clinical Counsellors are utilized in their Chronic Pain, Occupational Rehabilitation, and Trauma Programs, as well as individualized counselling services. The role involves assisting clients to understand and implement various effective strategies for managing sleep, mood, pain, anxiety, trauma, and other psychological issues interfering with rehabilitation, return to work, and normative function. Counselors assist in the development of psychological self-management within the population of injured workers, MVA victims, individuals on long term disability, and private individuals seeking support. The Clinical Counsellor within the team is responsible for assessment, consultation, education and treatment services. Education and treatment focus will be on assisting clients to understand and implement various effective strategies for managing sleep, mood, pain, anxiety, trauma, and other psychological issues interfering with rehabilitation and return to work. Additionally the Clinical Counsellor will advise on best practices and will ensure that the rehabilitation and assessment services at CBI Surrey are scientifically based.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Clinical Counselling or related field.
  • Registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors or the Canadian Counselling Association.
  • Minimum three years treatment and consultation experience working with a population with barriers to return to rehabilitation and return to work including pain, trauma, anxiety, sleep, mood, and application of effective goal focused techniques in counselling to address these barriers, especially in a third party insurance context such as WSCB, ICBC, or LTD.
  • Ability to deliver Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) grounded interventions.
  • Able to work with and offer treatment to resistant clients.
  • Conversant with report writing and timelines.
  • Microsoft office proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Acquainted with Motivational Interviewing (MI) and EMDR.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates assessment, orientation, counselling, and education to clients as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Facilitates group therapy psychoeducational sessions.
  • Provides individualized counselling as indicated.
  • Contributes to the team in the form of case management input, treatment planning, progress evaluation and recommendations, and discharge planning.
  • Contributes to the formulation of quality interdisciplinary reports.
  • Contributes to regular case conference and meetings with the referral source, facilitating negotiations and providing conflict resolution as appropriate.
  • Provides orientation and mentoring to assist other team members to effectively manage clients’ psychosocial issues.
  • Consults and communicates with external stakeholders in respect to client care.
  • Provides safety risk assessments and safety plans within clinical scope (e.g. self harm, harm to others).
