About The Position

Family Transition Place is looking for a Clinical Counsellor with the skills and experience to provide trauma counselling to women who have experienced abuse and all genders who have experienced sexual violence. Family Transition Place provides counselling services at offices in Orangeville, Bolton and Shelburne. The successful candidate may be required to work in any of these locations.

Requirements

  • Masters level counselling-focused degree or equivalent; currently enrolled and actively working towards a MSW or equivalent may be considered
  • Registration with a counselling / social work college or the ability to become registered
  • More than 2 years’ experience providing crisis counselling, case management, therapy and group work
  • Understanding of the links between violence, trauma, addictions and mental health concerns
  • Ability to incorporate into counselling an anti-oppression framework and short-term therapy models
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both cooperatively as a team member and independently
  • Skills in the use of a computer and a client information data base for statistical recording, correspondence and report writing
  • Proof of a valid Ontario Drivers License and automobile insurance
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance Certificate and maintaining of clearance requirements during course of employment
  • Valid drivers license and insurance
  • CPR and First Aid Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the GAIN Short Screener, Ontario Common Assessment of Needs (OCAN) and the Integrated Assessment Record (IAR) is an asset
  • Second language would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Providing individual and group counselling services to women who are experiencing or who have experienced woman abuse and / or sexual abuse. As well as individual counselling services to men who have experienced sexual abuse
  • Maintaining electronic data recordings (i.e., service events, referral sources according to agency and funders’ requirements.)
  • Collaborating and advocating with referral sources and other community response systems
  • Providing occasional education / information presentations and some committee work
  • Participating in and assisting with the planning and organization of services
  • Committing to the agency’s core values of Compassion, Integrity, Equity and Social Responsibility
  • Adhering to FTP policies and procedures and compliance with required legislative and regulatory requirements such as OHSA, AODA, etc.
