About The Position

The Sleep Center Clinical Coordinator works under the direction of the Midlands Director of Sleep Centers to coordinate the efforts of referring physicians, patients, and sleep center staff in providing sleep-related testing and treatment to patients. The Clinical Coordinator must have the ability to work independently, be creative in problem-solving, and communicate well with staff, patients, and referral sources.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 4 years of experience working with sleep patients.
  • State Licensure and/or professional certification requirements may be required depending on the position.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Responsibilities

  • Establish policies and procedures for home sleep testing program.
  • Educate patients on administration of home sleep tests and coordinate HST mail-out program.
  • Review home sleep testing data for validity, assign to appropriate physician for interpretation, and communicate with referring/interpreting physician to establish plan for treatment of the patient.
  • Work with physician practices to establish procedures for ordering of home sleep testing and to encourage growth of home sleep testing volume.
  • Multiple Sleep Latency Tests—regularly perform daytime MSLT testing.
  • Assist with training and education of care team members.
  • Provides clinical orientation/training of all new employees and monitors progress throughout orientation.
  • The Clinical Coordinator provides supervision of therapists and sleep technologists throughout their shift.
  • Performs administrative responsibilities such as recording and coverage of sick calls, FMLA, and discipline of staff.
  • Attends team meetings.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and takes appropriate action.
  • Manages conflict by confronting issue or problem and collaborating with others to explore acceptable solutions.
  • Work with equipment manufacturers to troubleshoot equipment/software issues related to sleep testing.
  • Review testing data from other care team members to ensure accuracy and troubleshoot any issues related to the tests.
  • Serve as a resource to all care team members for technical/clinical issues.
  • Place purchase orders for supplies needed in all sleep labs.
  • Performs regular equipment maintenance, quality control, preparation, and cleaning.
  • Documents procedures in the hospital information system, the patient’s medical record and department files.
  • Inputs daily patient charges and maintains accurate patient files.
  • Demonstrates the use of equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  • Demonstrates support and compliance with MUSC’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Other duties as assigned.
