About The Position

This position involves extracting billable services from patient charts, applying appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes, and entering this information into AxiUm for submission. The role requires close collaboration with faculty, fellows, and residents to provide education on correct coding, proper documentation for maximizing physician reimbursement, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The Clinical Coder will also inform financial counselors and faculty of significant changes in coding and reimbursement, participate in educational sessions for providers, and provide feedback to resolve billing and coding issues to ensure accuracy. Additionally, the role supports financial office staffing with patient financial counseling, securing pre-authorizations, and insurance verification. Attendance at continuing education courses, seminars, conferences, and meetings is expected, along with performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of various rules, regulations, and procedures for billing private insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid for patient treatment.
Experience with insurance billing.
Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
Aptitude for effective verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

Extract billable services from patient charts, apply appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes, and enter these services in AxiUm for submission.
Provide education to faculty, fellows, and residents on correct coding, proper documentation to maximize physician reimbursement, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
Inform financial counselors and faculty of important changes in coding and reimbursement.
Participate in education sessions to providers regarding documentation, reimbursement, and compliance.
Provide feedback to providers regarding billing and coding and work with providers to resolve these issues to ensure accurate coding.
Research problems and maximize revenues and prevent errors by working closely with treating providers.
Research coding issues through all available resources, including professional associations, federal and private payer guidelines, and coding networks.
Assist financial office staffing with financial counseling of patients and securing pre-authorizations and insurance verification.
Attend continuing education courses, seminars, conferences, and meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
