About The Position

The Clinical Clerical Nursing Associate role at Cleveland Clinic Akron General supports patient care areas within the Neonatal ICU (NICU). The NICU is a 14-bed, level III unit that opened on November 1, 2024, caring for infants from 22 weeks gestational age up to full term, requiring various supports like full-body cooling, respiratory assistance (CPAP, conventional ventilators, jet ventilator, oscillator), and IV nutrition. The unit also handles high-risk deliveries and neonatal resuscitations. The team includes 24/7 neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners, along with physical, occupational, and speech therapists, a dedicated dietician, and a respiratory therapy team (Monday-Friday). A NICU Clinical Nurse Specialist provides ongoing education and ensures policy alignment with evidence-based practices. Staffing ratios are typically 1:3 for feeder/growers, 1:2 for CPAP/stable vent/central lines, and occasionally 1:1 for high acuity babies. Under the supervision of a Nurse Manager or Registered Nurse, this position involves stocking supplies, performing cleaning, delivering materials, assisting with patient and equipment transport, providing assigned patient care duties, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross within new hire period (Nursing students must obtain prior to hire)
  • Proficient in applied mathematics and reading comprehension at an eighth-grade level

Nice To Haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
  • Previous health care and patient care experience in hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with members of health care team to promote the delivery of patient care and overall functioning of the unit.
  • Observes and reports changes in assigned patient's condition on an ongoing basis, assists with ambulating, gives or assists with patient hygiene/care.
  • Documents activities in the patient record care.
  • Provides and assists with transporting and discharge of patients.
  • Accurately transcribes and processes all orders and prepares, maintains and processes all charts, files and records mail, maintains inventory and completes errands in an efficient manner.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment, and maintains an adequate level of supplies.
  • Provides all communication between nursing unit, physicians, and departments with accuracy and courtesy.
  • Assists patients and families with general information.
