The Clinical Athletic Trainer (ATC) performs injury assessments and refers patients for necessary care. They communicate with patients to triage, answer questions, and instruct in self-care, prevention, and treatment. The ATC also communicates with physicians and the medical team to determine the need for special tests or services. They establish a plan of care, implement individual treatments using appropriate techniques, and communicate the plan to all involved parties. The role involves monitoring and evaluating outcomes, adjusting treatment plans based on patient response, and recognizing potential issues to advocate for the patient. Additionally, the ATC identifies factors affecting patient comfort, plans for after-visit summaries including home exercise programs and patient teaching, and completes all required documentation. This role also involves patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties that require lifting and pushing/pulling, while adhering to proper technique and age-specific care standards.
