The Clinical Associate performs clinical and clerical support, providing basic technical clinical services and clerical support in the delivery of quality patient care as directed by licensed staff, physician, or mid-level practitioner. They perform basic clinical services relating to the care, cleanliness, safety, and comfort of patients. The Clinical Associate may be approved for phlebotomy tasks with proper certification, department need, and leadership consent. This role supports a 12-bed ICU specializing in the care of non-traumatic brain injuries and other neurological diagnoses. The position is full-time, working day shifts with every other weekend and rotating holidays. Responsibilities include assisting with chart audits, updating demographics and insurances, answering phones, scheduling appointments, relaying messages, inputting refill requests, assisting with referrals and authorizations, ordering and stocking supplies, collecting patient assessment data (height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, current medications), processing equipment between patients, operating general office equipment, monitoring cleanliness and performing safety rounds, transporting patients, and assisting with regulatory compliance checks. The role also involves acting as clerical support, receptionist, and unit resource. On monitored units, the Clinical Associate functions as a nursing assistant and monitor technician. On non-monitored units, they may perform phlebotomy or femoral arterial sheath removal. The role also includes supporting staff scheduling, reviewing medical records for outstanding orders, managing admissions, transfers, and discharges as competencies allow, coordinating patient flow, scheduling procedures, welcoming patients and visitors, exhibiting service excellence, and demonstrating excellent telephone etiquette. Clinical Associates in Clinical Transport may monitor and interpret EKG rhythms and utilize a transportation algorithm. Additional clinical functions may include basic nursing care, participating in the sitter process, observing cardiac monitors, reporting arrhythmias, applying monitoring equipment, and observing epilepsy monitoring video. Phlebotomy competencies include obtaining blood specimens, reviewing orders, processing specimens, and preparing them for lab delivery.
