About The Position

The Clinical Assistant (CA) is an integral member of the patient care team and works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide responsive, service-oriented patient care. The role includes taking and recording vital signs, performing designated tests, collecting patient samples, and supporting patients with activities of daily living. CAs welcome patients and their families, help acclimate them to the unit, and interact with unit staff, physicians, and personnel from other hospital departments. The position requires timely and accurate communication, accurate documentation, and a harmonious, team-oriented, customer-friendly approach. CAs must be able to function competently in a computerized medical setting. The three principal duties are patient care under RN direction, testing and specimen collection as directed by an RN, and clerical support. In the clerical role, the CA serves as the unit’s “front door,” providing customer-service-oriented communication and clerical assistance. AHA-BLS certification is required within six months of hire, although certification is not a qualifying factor for obtaining the position.
