About The Position

The Clinical Assistant (CA) is part of a patient care team with a Registered Nurse (RN) and provides hands-on patient care under the RN’s direction and supervision. The CA takes and records vital signs, performs designated tests, collects patient samples, and supports patients with activities of daily living. CAs welcome patients and families to the unit, help them become acclimated, and interact with unit staff, physicians, and personnel from other hospital departments. The role requires timely and accurate communication and documentation, a harmonious, team-oriented, customer-friendly approach, and competence in a computerized medical setting. The position has three principal areas of responsibility: patient care, testing and specimen collection, and clerical support. In the clerical role, the CA serves as the unit’s “front door,” providing customer-service-oriented communication and support. AHA-BLS certification is required within six months of hire, subject to the stated allowance for a current non-AHA-BLS card; certification is not a qualifying factor to obtain the position. This is a bargaining union position.
