About The Position

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) 5S is an 8-bed unit that manages the care of patients under 25 requiring intensive care. The unit treats a variety of diagnoses including multiple traumas, shock, DKA, respiratory failure, drug overdose, and multiple organ failure. Additionally, the unit provides deep sedation for pediatric procedures such as EGD, colonoscopy, LP, bone marrow biopsy, PICC lines, and thoracentesis. Royal Oak Hospital is recognized as a top hospital in Michigan and nationally, serving as a major academic and referral center with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations. The unit coordinates patient care by managing communication and clerical tasks, monitoring and stocking supplies, and providing direct patient care as delegated by a registered nurse.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support required

Nice To Haves

• Completion of nursing assistant program and/or one year of nursing assistant experience preferred.
• Nursing Assistant certification preferred.

• Monitors and stocks supplies.
• Provides patient care and related functions as delegated by and under the direction of a registered nurse.
