About The Position

The School of Psychology at Xavier University invites applications for one full-time, non-tenure-track, faculty position at the Clinical Assistant Professor rank, beginning Fall 2027. The position will support our APA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral (Psy.D.) program and our undergraduate psychology major. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. The Psy.D. program has a strong record of success, including 10-year accreditation status with APA. The program draws highly competitive applicants from across the country and admits cohorts of approximately 18 students each year. Students receive generalist, practitioner-scientist training, along with specialized coursework in one or more focus areas: Child and Adolescent, Individuals with Severe and Chronic Problems & Psychopathology (ISCPP), and Healthcare Psychology (HCP). Over the past five years, 94% of our students have matched to an APA accredited internship site and 98% of our graduates are licensed psychologists. We also have a thriving undergraduate major (170-200 students) and minor (70-75 students) in psychology. Undergraduate psychology majors all participate in at least one research project, with students presenting annually at regional conferences. The School of Psychology offers an honors thesis option for our majors, and recently implemented our first specialization (industrial-organizational psychology). Equipping students with the empirical and critical thinking skills needed to effectively serve others is central to our undergraduate focus. Faculty teach in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. The teaching expectation is 24 credit hours annually for the clinical assistant professor faculty position, which may include clinical supervision in the Psy.D. program. The faculty member is expected to engage in service as well as additional departmental duties, and could engage in mentored research if so desired. Xavier University’s Faculty Handbook includes a progression for non-tenure-track faculty that parallels the ranks for tenure-track faculty (i.e., Clinical Assistant Professor to Clinical Associate Professor), with contract renewal contingent on performance in teaching and service. It is our hope and expectation that all colleagues will experience long and fulfilling careers at Xavier University. The School of Psychology is part of the College of Health and Human Sciences. CHHS is a leader in experiential learning: 100% of our undergraduate and graduate programs require hands-on learning through field placements, internships, research experiences, and clinical opportunities. In the College of Health and Human Sciences, our commitment to exceptional teaching and mentoring drives us. We focus on scholarship and service in a variety of fields that make a direct and meaningful impact on others. We intentionally strive to create a learning experience that supports all students, incorporates a broad range of perspectives, and fosters an environment of belonging. In alignment with Xavier’s Jesuit Catholic Mission and Statement of Purpose to “form students who change the world for the better,” we are united across our diverse areas by the shared mission of changing human lives for the better. Many of our College programs, including the School of Psychology, are part of Xavier Health, the University’s integrated health initiative connecting a broad portfolio of programs and creating opportunities for collaboration across disciplines. Xavier Health offers more than 15 undergraduate and 12 graduate pathways, more than 500 community partnership sites, and connections across disciplines that contribute to health and human well-being. Xavier Health prepares servant leaders through real-world experiences and Jesuit Catholic formation that puts the whole person at the center of care. Xavier University is part of the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts. Guided by our mission and values, we welcome and support members from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. We unreservedly commit to open and free inquiry, deliberately seek out multiple perspectives, and create a campus where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
