About The Position

The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Texas A&M University is seeking a full-time, 11-month Academic Professional Track faculty member to serve as a large animal clinical educator. This position is primarily focused on teaching, with opportunities for hospital-based patient care based on the candidate's expertise. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and delivering large animal content within the DVM curriculum, including the Professional & Clinical Skills course, which spans the first six semesters. This course emphasizes clinical skills in a simulation lab, professional skills like communication and ethical decision-making, and critical thinking through problem-based instruction. The role requires excellence and creativity in education, with potential for course coordinator responsibilities. Broad experience with large animal species is desired. The majority of the effort (60-70%) will be dedicated to pre-clinical instruction, with the remaining time (30-40%) allocated to clinical service in the Large Animal Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, academic service, and/or scholarly activities. The position requires a commitment to a team-centered atmosphere and excellent communication skills. Faculty members are also expected to uphold the VMBS code of professional conduct.

Requirements

• DVM (or equivalent) degree.

Nice To Haves

• Broad experience in large animal species.
• Possession of, or eligibility for, a DEA certificate and USDA Category II accreditation for applicants desiring patient care responsibilities.
• Licensed or eligible for regular or special license to practice veterinary medicine in Texas for patient care.
• Board certification or eligibility to take a board examination in a specialty recognized by the AVMA American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS), including ABVP.

Responsibilities

• Developing and delivering large animal content within the DVM curriculum.
• Participating in the instruction of the integrated and highly experiential DVM curriculum.
• Participating in multiple courses, including the Professional & Clinical Skills course.
• Gaining clinical skills in the simulation laboratory.
• Developing professional skills, including communication, ethical decision-making, personal and professional finance, and critical thinking skills through problem-based instruction.
• Supporting the curriculum through course coordinator responsibilities.
• Providing clinical service in the Large Animal Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.
• Engaging in academic service and/or scholarly activities.
