About The Position

The Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing and Department Chair of Simulation plays a dual role in teaching and leading simulation-based education at Jacksonville University's Keigwin School of Nursing (KSON). This faculty member will be responsible for teaching in the simulation environments while managing and facilitating the daily operations of the Simulation Training and Applied Research (STAR) Center, Clinical Skills Lab, and Jacksonville University Healthcare Simulation Center (HSC). The Chair will collaborate with faculty, staff, and community partners to ensure high-quality, evidence-based experiential learning and skill development for undergraduate and graduate nursing students. This is a full-time, 12-month position that involves in-person, classroom instruction.

Requirements

Instruct, professionally communicate, and demonstrate nursing skills techniques to nursing students.
Self-directed, have computer proficiency that includes the knowledge necessary to develop case scenarios and simulations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to evaluate nursing students in the teaching/learning lab environment.
Knowledge of effective teaching techniques and curriculum development.
Skill in facilitating development of student problem solving skills.
Ability to design effective learning activities for students.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
Role model professionalism and maintain professional skills lab environment for students.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution, DNP or PhD preferred.
Unencumbered Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility to obtain.
Lead Simulationist or Leadership experience required.
Minimum of two years of recent clinical nursing experience in areas such as Medical- Surgical, Emergency, Critical Care, or Progressive Care.
Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred).
Experience or strong interest in simulation-based education.
Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or willingness to obtain certification.
Familiarity with simulation technology, curriculum development, and INACSL standards.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and simulation software platforms.
Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
Able to lift and turn objects up to 90 lbs. without physical restrictions.

Nice To Haves

DNP or PhD preferred.
ACLS preferred.
Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or willingness to obtain certification.

Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day operations of the STAR Center, Clinical Skills Lab, and HSC in coordination with the Director.
Supervise and mentor simulation staff and faculty when the Director is not present.
Coordinate scheduling, resource utilization, and maintenance across all simulation facilities.
Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance simulation efficiency and effectiveness.
Represent the simulation centers to internal and external stakeholders, including tours and outreach.
Design, implement, and evaluate simulation scenarios aligned with INACSL standards and QSEN competencies.
Collaborate with nursing faculty to integrate simulation into curriculum and meet course objectives.
Conduct skill demonstrations and simulation debriefings; support remediation efforts and open lab sessions.
Facilitate simulation activities involving high-fidelity manikins and standardized patients (SPs).
Maintain accurate records of simulation activities, course integration, and student evaluations.
Teach undergraduate and/or graduate nursing courses in classroom, lab, hybrid, and/or online formats.
Support student learning through advisement, NCLEX preparation, test-taking strategies, and time management.
Evaluate student performance in simulation and lab settings using evidence-based methodologies.
Engage in curriculum development and revision related to clinical simulation education.
Participate in scholarship related to clinical practice, nursing education, and simulation pedagogy.
Attend and present at professional conferences; maintain current knowledge in simulation technologies and best practices.
Engage in committee work, faculty meetings, student recruitment, and other service activities.
Work closely with Simulation Operations and IT teams to ensure proper functioning of simulation equipment and software.
Troubleshoot technical issues and maintain the security, cleanliness, and safety of the lab and simulation areas.
Ensure proper disposal of materials and compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
