About The Position

The Clinical Assistant Professor in Nutrition and Dietetics within the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) is a 9-month faculty position. The anticipated start date of employment is August 1, 2026. The College of Health and Human Sciences offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees, including B.S. degrees in Health Studies, Sport and Entertainment Management, and Hospitality and Resort Management, as well as M.S. degrees in Health Studies, Sport Commerce, and Nutrition, and PhD programs in Applied Biomechanics, Applied Physiology and Nutrition, and Doctor of Physical Therapy. The college serves approximately 1900 undergraduate and graduate majors. The University of Memphis is a Research 1 Institution with a diverse student population of approximately 20,000 students.

Requirements

• An earned master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or a closely related field is required at the time of hire.
• Credentialing as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
• Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a dietitian/nutritionist in the State of Tennessee is required.
• Minimum of three years of professional experience in clinical nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, counseling, or related practice areas required.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in classroom, laboratory, counseling, and experiential learning settings is required.
• Experience serving as a preceptor for dietetic students or interns is required.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required.
• Candidate must meet eligibility requirements to begin and continue working in the United States at the time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

• College-level teaching experience is desired.
• Active involvement in professional organizations and service to the dietetics profession is desired.

Responsibilities

• Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Nutrition and Dietetics, including Medical Nutrition Therapy and related nutrition courses in traditional (in-person), laboratory, hybrid, and online formats.
• Integrate medical nutrition therapy concepts into applied and experiential learning opportunities.
• Develop and deliver engaging learning experiences that connect clinical nutrition knowledge with real-world practice.
• Provide nutrition counseling and wellness services to students, faculty, and staff through individual and group education initiatives (in partnership with Campus Recreation).
• Serve as a preceptor and mentor to undergraduate and graduate dietetic students during supervised practice and experiential learning activities.
• Teach and support community-focused culinary medicine and other nutrition programming.
• Develop innovative educational opportunities, workshops, and continuing education initiatives related to nutrition, counseling, culinary medicine, and wellness.
• Collaborate with campus and community partners to expand nutrition education and wellness programming.
• Engage in service activities at the academic unit, college, university, and professional levels.
