About The Position

This is a non-tenure track faculty position requiring prior graduate-level teaching experience, demonstrated engagement in scholarly activity, and meaningful contributions to clinical practice. Clinical faculty are primarily responsible for teaching and service, including patient-care–related activities where applicable. Faculty in the Department of Disability and Human Development report directly to the Department Head.

Requirements

Doctor of Occupational Therapy, or Doctor of Physical Therapy, or Doctor of Philosophy in a related field (e.g. Disability Studies, Rehab Sciences, Rehab Engineering)
License in Occupational and/or Physical Therapy
5 years clinical experience
Advanced Knowledge and Skills in Assistive Technology
Can complete a wheelchair assessment and documentation to obtain funding for Asssistive Technology Unit customers
Able to translate strategy to action
Communicate at all levels of organization
Work effectively in ambiguous situations within an interdisciplinary team setting

Responsibilities

Provide academic instruction for departmental courses, including those within the Assistive Technology Certificate program, with emphasis on seating and wheeled mobility and alternative digital access.
Coordinate and deliver comprehensive assistive technology services in the areas of seating and wheeled mobility, home modifications, and alternative digital access through the Assistive Technology Unit housed within the department.
Provide clinical education, training, and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students in rehabilitation, Disability and Human Development, education, medicine, and neuroscience programs at UIC.
Supervise students completing the Assistive Technology Certificate fieldwork placement requirement in seating and wheeled mobility and alternative digital access.
Collaborate with the Assistive Technology Unit Director to support departmental and college initiatives related to insurance billing processes and cost containment strategies for assistive technology services
Conduct outcome-focused assistive technology research, contributing to presentations and peer-reviewed scholarly publications.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
