About The Position

The Ohio State University’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a clinical faculty member to teach in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at the Assistant or Associate Professor-Clinical rank. This initial 5-year appointment is renewable in 3 - 5 year terms based on continued need and annual reviews. We seek candidates with physical therapy teaching and practice experience in neurology, geriatrics, clinical reasoning and differential diagnosis, pediatrics, or clinical education administration; ideally, candidates will cover more than one area. Candidates must have appropriate educational preparation to teach within our DPT program, with a PhD, EdD, or equivalent preferred. Our clinical faculty devote most of their time to teaching and must demonstrate excellence—not only as educators but also as productive scholars and committed professionals. The scholarship of discovery, integration, application, and teaching and learning are all valued for clinical faculty. All faculty are required to participate in service to the PT division and the school, including support of activities for accreditation. The Ohio State University’s CAPTE-accredited DPT program highly values teaching excellence and professional leadership. Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in physical therapy (or bachelors or master's in physical therapy plus an earned academic doctorate)
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a physical therapist in the State of Ohio
  • Evidence of strong teaching ability, including experience with online learning management systems
  • Ability to mentor graduate & professional students
  • Clinical expertise in one or more of these areas: neurology, geriatrics, clinical reasoning and differential diagnosis, pediatrics, or clinical education administration

Nice To Haves

  • Earned academic doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, EdD, ScD, DHSc)
  • ABPTS certified specialist in a relevant field of physical therapy

Responsibilities

  • teach DPT students in-person and online in one of the identified need areas listed above
  • contribute to our graduate programs (MS or PhD) in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences
  • mentor students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles
  • mentor students completing case study projects in the DPT program
  • contribute to the science of the profession through a focused scholarship program
  • contribute high level service to the program, School, College, University and professional organizations
  • undertake 65% teaching, 10 - 25% scholarship, 10 - 25% service
