About The Position

As Clinical Applications Supervisor at Howard University Hospital, you will oversee the daily operations, support, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the clinical information systems used across our organization. You will directly supervise the Clinical Applications team and serve as a key liaison between clinical departments, operational leaders, and Information Technology, ensuring our clinical systems support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Information Technology, Informatics, Analytics, or another healthcare-related field.
  • Five (5+) years of clinical workflow experience in a healthcare delivery setting.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Clinical Informatics, IT, and/or Analytics, EHR implementation, optimization, or clinical systems leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience working within hospitals, health systems, ambulatory networks, or integrated delivery organizations in a lead role.
  • In-depth knowledge of EHR functionality and clinical information systems.
  • Ability to translate clinical needs into functional system and workflow requirements.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards, interoperability concepts, and clinical quality measures.
  • Strong communication, cross-functional team collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Board certification or advanced training in Clinical Informatics and Analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily activities of the Clinical Applications team, ensuring timely completion of assigned projects, support requests, and operational priorities.
  • Conduct employee performance management, including coaching, mentoring, performance evaluations, staff development, and corrective action as appropriate.
  • Coordinate support, maintenance, optimization, and enhancement of the electronic health record (EHR) and related clinical applications.
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor departmental workload to ensure effective use of resources and achievement of service-level expectations.
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and implement workflow improvements and system enhancements.
  • Oversee application testing, system upgrades, implementations, and go-live activities to ensure successful deployment with minimal disruption to patient care.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for application-related issues and coordinate timely resolution with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Support regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, patient safety initiatives, and organizational policies through effective management of clinical information systems.
  • Participate in the development of clinical application standards, procedures, documentation, and training materials to promote consistency and best practices.
  • Monitor system performance, user satisfaction, and operational metrics, recommending improvements that enhance efficiency, quality of care, and clinician experience.
