About The Position

The purpose of the Clinical Nursing Instructor is to supplement the classroom experience by teaching and supervising pre-licensure BSN nursing students in the clinical agency. Clinical Nurse Faculty report to the BSN Program Director with supervision from the Clinical Coordinator and Course Coordinators for the assigned subject area. Subject areas may include Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing, Medical/Surgical Nursing, Community/ Public Health Nursing, and Obstetrics/Pediatric Nursing. Adjunct Nurse Faculty are generally appointed at the rank of Instructor.

Requirements

  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and previous experience teaching clinical in a Registered Nursing or higher program is preferred.
  • All candidates will hold a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Have two calendar years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse.
  • Hold a current unrestricted license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
  • Have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education or the ability and willingness to complete the North Carolina Board of Nursing teaching/learning requirements within three years of hire.
  • Maintain competence in the areas of assigned responsibility
  • Have current knowledge of nursing practice for the registered nurse.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Making patient/student assignments
  • Providing clinical instruction
  • Assessing each student's progress and providing verbal and/or written feedback to the student
  • Completing a formal, summative evaluation of the student's clinical performance using the clinical evaluation tool developed for the course
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the clinical site
