About The Position

This position is for a Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) working a 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week) on the 1st Shift. The RN demonstrates a caring consciousness through relationship-based care delivery, assuming responsibility and accountability for evidence-based nursing care under the supervision of a provider at Waverly Health Center Clinics. The role involves direct and indirect patient care, observation, and counsel to patients and families, with effective communication with providers, managers, and other healthcare team members. The RN also serves as a mentor and consultant for clinical development within the clinic nursing team.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nurses.
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
  • Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including online training modules, employee timesheet, and performance appraisal system.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a clinic setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain patients’ electronic records, accurately documenting care and services provided in a timely manner and ensuring confidentiality.
  • Prepare patients for examination and/or tests, assist with exams and minor office procedures as needed.
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care, administering/refilling prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Maintain accurate patient charges for services and equipment used.
  • Observe and monitor patient condition, notifying providers of changes or reactions.
  • Maintain responsibility for the welfare of assigned patients, including performing life-saving measures if necessary.
  • Triage patient telephone calls, assess condition, and advise on treatment or schedule appointments.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, families, providers, outside agencies, and hospital personnel.
  • Work with other nursing staff to maintain continuity of care.
  • Use tact, patience, and understanding when dealing with patients, treating them with respect and dignity.
  • Provide and reinforce teaching for patients and family members, adapting to their understanding.
  • Problem-solve regarding patient care, initiating contact with appropriate resources.
  • Exercise independent judgment in patient care and seek assistance from proper personnel or manager when appropriate.
  • Act as a clinical resource, sharing knowledge with other clinic staff.
  • Participate in the evaluation and monitoring of nursing care quality.
  • Collaborate with staff to structure patient care.
  • Assist in developing strategies to improve clinical competencies of staff.
  • Complete and maintain a professional portfolio.
  • Maintain condition of equipment and supplies related to patient care, managing and operating equipment safely.
  • Provide for the repair, restocking, or replacement of supplies and equipment.
  • Conduct monthly supply/pharmaceutical sample audits, removing outdated items.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of patient referral processes, including scheduling tests/procedures and obtaining prior authorization.
  • Document telephone encounters, capturing pertinent data.
  • Follow up on all lab and diagnostic imaging results, outstanding orders, and ensure electronic transmission of orders and prescriptions.
  • Perform Lab QA checks, lab collection and processing procedures.
  • Adhere to all applicable WHC and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage supply ordering process, including removal of expired supplies.
  • Perform IRIS/VFC reconciliation and documentation.
  • Assist provider in maintaining CDSS/Alerts/Recall System.
  • Scan incoming or outgoing paper documents and organize them within the EMR.
  • Utilize Standard Precautions as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate appropriate instrument safety precautions/care.
  • Carry out medical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
